Self-recharging smoke alarm is the gift that keeps on giving life

The smoke alarm in our apartment started beep-beep-beeping last week, which apparently drove my roommate to unplug it and leave it at the top of stairs. Instead of, you know, walking downstairs to where the batteries are and changing them. Oh, domestic bliss. Still, it is a pain to have to keep replacing the batteries in these vital life-saving appliances. Surely there's a more clever solution.
Look no further than DuPont's new Self-Recharing Smoke Alarm. Simply screw it into any existing light socket, and you've got yourself a virtually inexhaustible smoke alarm that will recharge every time you flip the light switch on. You can even screw the bulb back into it, so you don't lose a light fixture. At $40, it might be a tad more expensive than the average smoke detector in your neighborhood hardware store, but you ought to more than make up for it in the cash you save by not buying batteries all the time.
Best of all, there's no need to wake up on fire ever again.
