The best part of waking up is probably not the Rise and Shine's nature sounds

Rise and Shine Bedside LampHonestly I find these devices that play nature sounds more creepy than anything. I'm a suburban boy, born and raised, and while I've done a bit of camping, I found myself more likely to be lulled to sleep by the sounds of a rural Kentucky motor speedway than chirping crickets. Also, I can guarantee that waking up to the sound of chirping birds is not soothing, as anyone who's ever had a bird's nest outside their window can attest.

Fortunately, the Rise and Shine Bedside lamp has a host of features aside from its nature sounds functionality. Besides its normal usage as a lamp, it incorporates an alarm clock that can wake you up gradually by slowly increasing the intensity of its Xenon light (isn't that the same annoying technology they use in blinding car headlights?). There's also a built-in AM/FM radio, and a sleep mode that can put you to sleep by slowly dimming the light and reducing its sound volume—though I can imagine that might be frustrating if you accidentally turn it on while doing a little bedtime reading.

All of this mad functionality comes at a price, though, and that price is $268, which is unfortunately, just a tad over the $250 I'm willing to pay for a lamp/radio/alarm clock with nature sounds. Really guys, the nature sounds killed you.
