Electronic Music stand doesn’t hit all the notes?

Electronic Music StandNow I’m not a professional musician (thank your lucky stars), but it seems to me that an electronic music stand could be a solution in search of a problem. First off, you have to shell out $1300 for the device from Hammacher Schlemmer (well known, as they are, for selling items of unimpeachable practicality). Then you have to somehow get your music onto the electronic screen, which either means scanning or downloading it, then transferring it via the stand’s USB ports. It can also playback music via MIDI.

But what, precisely, is the benefit? The 1024x768 resolution is still probably lower contrast and quality than sheet music. You can touch the screen or pump the foot pedal to switch to the next page, which I suppose is nicer than dealing with page turning during a performance, though it seems to me that most musicians (apart from Victor Borge) rarely have trouble with that particular operation.

Maybe it’d be a useful addition, but for the moment, I’d recommend sticking with the analog variants, which will run you (generously) a hundred dollars, probably less. Plus, they have unlimited battery life.

Yeah, but with the electronic music stand, you could play in the dark!
